The AKM, an improved version of the former Soviet Union’s AK-47 assault rifle, began production in 1959. The bayonet used by the AKM rifle is very different from the bayonet of the AK-47 rifle. It is a multi-purpose bayonet that can not only be mounted on the gun for bayonet fighting, but also be removed and used as a wire cutter, and can also saw harder objects. The bayonet is relatively successful in terms of design, structure and performance. This bayonet was also installed on the AK-74 5.45mm assault rifle and the SVD 7.62mm sniper rifle developed by the former Soviet Union.
